Honestly, I don't even know where my trash goes to in Jakarta. I read in news that there are some problems with the city trash dumping to another town.
Sad to say, our city is not green. Although we can always try to educate for better environment but it will be long way.
How can I, amongst millions of the population, be more environmentally conscious?
~ I'm learning each day how to be more green, starting with saying no the plastic grocery bags and putting all buys into my big bag.
However, I still use plastic bags to wrap my fruits in supermarket. It is not easy to get plastic bag out of shopping habits. I could keep a fiber bag stashed in my bag for those impromptu buys.
There was an article written in Weekender magazine (part of Jakarta Post) that there are biodegradable bags sold at Rp1,500 (18 c) for 35pcs from DML, which I hope retailers can choose to use this material. Rp 1,500 is big for small retailers who by means, only earn very small margin. Sigh, just hope that greener materials come at competitive prices...
